Monday's Game Vs Terry White: Recap

OK, the good news first: We won and had no injuries! At the end of everything, we won and have the chance to be better! And we will. Also, we are 1-0 in our division and nobody has scored on us this year! Let's keep that going!

The bad news: we waited until OT before playing the way we've been practicing. We have to get started sooner, right?

Just a couple of notes from the coaches:

Not everyone had the chance to carry the football because we couldn't score or get first downs. As we get better as a team and get more yards on each drive, more people will get the ball. I think Ty had three carries, Chris had less than 10, Tyler White had none, and Bobby Sampson had no passes. Much of this was due to the pressure from their defense. If we get better at the line, then the entire team will start having more fun!

Everybody played at least half of the game except Dillon Gossett. I forgot to put him back in on defense in OT. Hey, Dillon.... My fault, man. I apologize and will try not to make that mistake again. Lots of the defensive line switched around in order to get fresh bodies in and pressure their offense. Expect more of that this year.

When we get together on Thursday, expect us to practice on working the kinks out of our system. It's our first game. Coaches expect more mistakes during the first game and realize that the biggest progress you make is between Game 1 and Game 2. We are no different.

Coach Benjie and I really love having you guys on our team. We are always proud of you and would do anything for you. Now, let's come together and get better!

PS: Roy Douglas: That was a great display of hitting out there. Thanks for helping your brothers!!!!!

Sunday Night Update

OK, guys.... GREAT practice on Saturday. You are definately ready for tomorrow. We need to simply focus on

THINKING at the line of scrimmage (power-push, movement, etc)
THINKING at 1, 2 and 3 backs (Wing T where?)
THINKING on defense for ALL positions

If you will fire off and hit like you are supposed to, then you will have no problems. Be at the field NO LATER than 6:45pm for our 7:30pm game. We will walk thru our offense one time to prepare. No clear mouthpieces allowed and we still need birth certificates if you haven't already provided them. See you all then!!!!

Wednesday Night Update

No practice tomorrow (Thursday). More rain expected and it's better for us just to call it off now. We will be planning to get together on Saturday around 10am (in pads) to hit and go over the fundamentals in preparation for our game next week. No rain is expected for Monday or Tuesday, so.....

More soon!

Tuesday; 1:02pm

Just looked at Doppler Radar. The rain seems to be making a CHARGE on the city of Clinton. It's amazing. Weather from all areas are converging on our town. East, west... you name it.

So, we may play. We may not. But still make plans to meet at the football field behind the Traceway Park offices at 5:30pm. If we win today, we control our destiny for the Super Bowl. Guaranteed.

Tuesday Update

All 15 players at practice yesterday!!! Congrats, guys.

Be at field at 5:30pm. If you owe me a birth certificate, bring it. Be ready to play the way we've been practicing and you guys will do great. See you then!

Saturday Update

We missed 5 players at practice today. That really hampered our plans to be ready for Terry Blue on Tuesday. We are hoping that we can overcome that and still play the way we did 2 weeks ago in practice. History shows that time off can kill what we've been working on. On top of that, we wanted to put in a couple of new plays but need everyone there to prepare for them.

Practice finished up with some very nice blocking and hitting. Offense got the kinks out after a while; just another reason that we need repetition in our plays and progressions.

Thanks to Roy Douglas and JaDarius Brooks for the $8!

Expect a walk-thru in t-shirts, shorts and helmets on Monday afternoon. We sincerely need to be ready. If you like, we can walk-thru around 6pm, finish around 6:45 or 7pm, and then go as a team to the 7:30pm game between Terry - White and Clinton Eagles. It sure wouldn't hurt to sit and watch our competiton play each other. The kids would get a chance to see what others will be doing and be even MORE ready for Tuesday.

PS: WE REALLY NEED BIRTH CERTIFICATES FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT PROVIDED THEM! SEE POSTS BELOW!

Friday Update

Our Monday game has been moved to Monday, October 26th. It may have been rained out anyway as rain is forecasted for next week, too. That makes three weeks of rain!

Keep posted...

Thursday 17th: Update

Sorry that I missed the (almost) practice tonight. Also sorry that we didn't get a chance to keep up our momentum in practicing and hitting.

Just a few notes for everyone:

1. Our game Monday will probably be pushed back to late October. The tests scheduled in school for the kids next week have parents of the Chargers worried and they may not be there. So, instead of taking a forfeit, I would rather get the game in and play. This benefits us all; even though we really wanted to get this first game under our belt. More on that by the time we get together Saturday, so check the website.

2. We REALLY need to prepare for our first game. We were ready for Monday's rain-out game, but having a "walk-thru" on Saturday, no game on Monday and no practice today have put us behind again. Our game last year that we lost looked JUST LIKE THIS. So, Saturday will be really important to prepare us for what looks to be our first game on Tuesday against a division team (Terry Titans - Blue). We will work hard on Saturday to get ready, but the line will be the emphasis of the practice.

NO TEAM wins without a good line. The Colt line will be the thing that wins games for us. So, we will really be working hard with you guys.

3. If you haven't paid the $ for the year, please remember to do so by Saturday. AND, if you need to supply me with a birth certificate (see the posts below), please do so by Saturday. The team we play on Tuesday may very well require one before we even kick off.

Remember: you are the best team in the league. You have a better offensive plan, you have a role to play on a defense that will win you LOTS of games, and you can HIT and PLAY extremely well. But, you have to do this during our game. Don't forget that. Be ready to think and execute, OK?

Check the website by Saturday for an update. See you guys then!

Rain Out Update

First of all, thanks to the Milnick and Davis family for the $20!

Wish we hadn't been rained out, but it's OK. It will give us more time to perfect our offense and put in a few new things. We are tentatively scheduled for Monday night. The time is to be determined. That will mean games on Monday (Chargers) and Tuesday (Terry-Blue). We should be fine with that schedule.

Any Colt that wants to come up and watch the Terry-White vs Terry-Blue game at 7:30pm tomorrow with Coach Benji and Coach Delvan are welcome. Just make your way to the same field and find us. We will sit together and talk about what they're doing and prepare accordingly.

Practices are tentatively set for Thursday and Saturday. Times announced soon.

Thanks, guys!

Prep For Monday Night

First of all, thanks to Ryan Goff, Bobby Sampson, Chris Brooks, Will Nye and Jacob Smith for the $8 additional fee. Really appreciated, guys! If you haven't paid the $ for the decals and such, we would love to have it!

Walk-thru went well. A few additional changes to the offense, a couple of new instructions to the linemen (REMEMBER THOSE!) and a new instructions to the 2-back position. The defense has their responsibilities and we should remember how we drilled.

IMPORTANT: Socks are not provided this year. So, go with the color on the numbers of your jerseys and the decal on your helmets. Dark blue should be OK. If you don't have them by first game, then we can work on it by Game 2.

Also, if someone has a way of taking fabric, heating the names on it and sewing to the jerseys, then we should be OK. We have the names and can help.

Be at the field at 6:30pm on Monday. It's behind the Parks & Rec building. We need to get ready and focused on our game. AND, we may make a few changes to the defensive line strategy!!!

Remember: you guys can do great things. You are ready, you are smart, you are prepared and you can win IF you play your position and THINK! See you all there.

PS: Two more things:

(1) We need copies of birth certificates! I have TY IRWIN, CHRIS VARDAMAN, RYAN GOFF, JaDARIUS BROOKS, LUKE DAVIS, ROY DOUGLAS, and DILLON GOSSETT. I have a copier if you need one. But, we will definately need copies for the season.

(2) Watch the website for changes... Especially weather related...

Colt Update: Jerseys and Such

Guys, I just picked up the window decals for the remainder of the team today. You will get them tomorrow.

Also, two negative things...

1. The jerseys are in. They have the Clinton Parks & Rec logo in the middle of the space that was to have our names. I tried so hard to be part of the jersey process before ordering from Judge Little, but that wasn't to be. Past years never had this logo. I've tried different options to get them on there, but none are going to work. So, we will not be wearing our names on our jerseys this year. I do have the names available for t-shirts or something that we may want to do with them. Ideas are welcome.

2. To make matters worse, I underestimated the charge for each parent. It should have been $28 per parent instead of $20. Apparently there were additional charges for the helmet logo and taxes that I hadn't counted on.

So, if you're willing to pay the extra $8, then I would be so grateful. But since I told everyone $20, I'm not going to come back and ask everybody to pay more.

Bring your helmets to practice tomorrow and we will finish by putting the logos on them. See you all at 10am!

Thursday Update

A few practice notes:

The line played as good as they could today. If we block like that, show effort like that, and execute like that all year, then we will win every game we play. Period.

A few other notes:

I've collected $20 from the following COLT families:

Brooks (Chris)
Brooks (Jadarius)
Douglas
Goff
Gossett
Singleton
Sampson
Vardaman

This goes toward the logos for the helmet, window stickers for your car and names for their jerseys. I'll need to collect the remainder soon!

Window stickers are in. See me before Saturday to get them!

Schedule coming shortly. Keep checking website for details!

Ty Irwin; Kyle Singleton

Will Nye, Ryan Goff, Roy Douglas, Luke Davis

Sept 4th Update

Great practice last night, guys. I thought that both the backs and the line worked hard and made lots of progress! We hit hard, we tried to get better, and we worked like nobody else.

Have you noticed that we are making fewer and fewer mistakes that cost us extra laps at the end of practice? As we continue to work together, we will do even better.

We still have lots to learn and even a few extra plays to introduce! So, keep working hard and expecting to win. Our next practice will be announced on the website, so make sure you continue to check here. See you all then!

Tuesday - Sept 1 Recap

First of all, take a look at the COMMENTS under the last post. Mr. Brooks has posted some pics and a short video of our scrimmage! Isn't great to have him as part of the COLT family?

After watching it again, I think the line did pretty good overall. I have to remember that this is just our second time to be in pads, so I think we're on schedule to have one heck of a team this year.

We will get better, guys. You and your brothers will all be fighting hard and working hard to dominate this year. You already have the talent. Now it's just getting consistent with our plays and our jobs on the field. Congrats on dominating your first "scrimmage"!

Be ready to work hard on Thursday. If we do what I think we can do, then you can have Saturday off. Unless you want to practice some on the side. Then, just call!
